Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International) resumed scheduled services to Port Vila, Vanuatu on Sunday, August 7 following a brief near week long suspension.
The carrier temporarily pulled out of the South Pacific Island after inspection teams found growing potholes in the airport's main runway 11/29. Said potholes have now been repaired culminating in the resumption of flights from Brisbane International.
"Guests should be aware that if the condition of the runway deteriorates as a result of the adverse weather, services in and out of Port Vila will be suspended and this could mean changes to their travel plans at short notice," the airline warned.
With Air New Zealand (NZ, Auckland International) and Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) having suspended their respective services to Vanuatu earlier year citing the runway's poor condition, only Air Vanuatu (NF, Port Vila) and Virgin Australia have remained to offer direct connections to each of Australia and New Zealand.
