NextJet (Stockholm Arlanda) has extended operations between Stockholm Arlanda and Gällivare until December 18. The airline initially planned to suspend the service on October 31 after its partner and financial backer on the route, AG-Travel, declared bankruptcy in August.
NextJet will operate the flights until mid-December without any financial backing and expects for the Swedish Transport Administration to launch tender procedures to find the airline a new partner for the service by then.
The Swedish airline is the sole carrier serving Gällivare. In a statement, NextJet’s CEO said that despite being unable to negotiate lower fees and surcharges at the airport with the local municipality, the airline decided to extend the service as its termination could harm the local economy. The route is operated twelve times weekly via Arvidsjaur using BAe ATPs.
