Alitalia (AZA, Rome Fiumicino) has entered into exclusive sales negotiations with Air France-KLM that would take a 49.9% stake in Alitalia in return for a small minority stake for the Italian government in Air France-KLM. The sale process still faces several hurdles including upcoming elections in Italy and a lawsuit from previous bidder Air One (AP/Rome Fiumicino). Its short haul services from Malpensa to Athens, Barcelona, Beirut, Berlin Tegel, Budapest, Copenhagen, Damascus, Frankfurt, Krakow (already suspended), Lisbon, London Heathrow, Lyon, Madrid, Malaga (already suspended), Malta, Minsk Intl 2, Nice, Skopje (already suspended), Strasbourg, Stockholm Arlanda, Thessaloniki, Timisoara (already suspended), Valencia, Warsaw, Zagreb and Zurich as well as domestic routes to Ancona, Bolzano, Bologna Marconi, Florence, Genoa, Lamezia Terme, Perugia, Pisa will also be cut by the end of March. As a result of its network changes, Alitalia will also make adjustments in its relationship with regional partners Air A!ps (A6/Innsbruck) and Alitalia Express (XM/Rome Fiumicino). It will terminate its cooperation with Air A!ps (A6/Innsbruck) and give up its routes from Rome Fiumicino to Bolzano, Parma and Rimini by the end of March as well. Alitalia Express (XM/Rome Fiumicino) will retire its entire its 10 ATR 72 turboprops and only use its ERJ-145s and EMB-170s as of April.
