Solomons - Solomon Airlines (IE, Honiara) has suspended all services to Atoifi as at December 31, 2016, citing safety concerns. In a press release on its website, the national carrier says that a dispute between the landowners and the Atoifi Airport administrators means that the safety of Solomons' operations cannot be guaranteed.
The aerodrome on Uru Harbour has a 600 metre runway 06/24 with just two services per week to the capital Honiara.
Solomons is the largest carrier of the Pacific archipelago nation, flying to thirty-one domestic and international destinations. The airline is the only scheduled carrier servicing the country's six major islands. It previously suspended operations to Auki island from 2013 to 2016, again over a landowners dispute.
