Solomons - Solomon Airlines (IE, Honiara) has announced that it has suspended services to Sege, following the airport's closure due to poor runway conditions. Passengers are advised to change their flights from Honiara to either Munda or Ramata until the issue is resolved.
The airport has been closed since June 28.
"The authorities overseeing the rehabilitation of the runway surface have indicated that the temporary suspension of Sege Airport will unfortunately be extended to 22 July," a spokesperson for the airline said. "This is due to the extent of the work that has to be carried out as well as construction delays caused by heavy rain in the area."
The Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, Paula Bennett, met with the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Manasseh Sogavare, last week, and committed to assist the island nation in the upgrading of Seghe airport, as well as airports at Suavanao, Santa Cruz/Graciosa Bay/Luova and Choiseul Bay.
