Thomas Cook Airlines UK (Manchester) has reintroduced flights to Tunisia for British holiday makers, with packages available from February 13, 2018. The holiday specialist has not offered flights to Tunisia since a deadly terrorist attack at the tourist resort of Port El Kantaoui in June 2015. The announcement came shortly after the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) relaxed its travel advisory advice for Tunisia.
"In the intervening two years since that very sad day, the Tunisian government has worked to improve its security and the way its police and security teams can respond to terrorist incidents," said Group Head of Customer Welfare Carol MacKenzie. "It is this work which meant that the UK government were able to announce that they are now satisfied that British travellers can return to the country."
Thomas Cook's outlets in France, Germany and Belgium have continued to offer Tunisian trips over the past two years without interruption, a fact which Thomas Cook says works in its favour as its staff are still on the ground.
"We're starting in just a few resorts, mainly near to Hammamet [Enfidha], and only eight hotels, where we're confident we can offer the high quality our customers expect," MacKenzie said.
