AirAsia Japan (Nagoya Chubu) has begun revenue operations after it secured the go-ahead from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLITT) late last week.
In a statement, the latest member of the growing AirAsia Group said it had successfully conducted its inaugural commercial service on Sunday, October 29. Initial operations will involve a 2x daily shuttle service between its Nagoya Chubu base and Sapporo Chitose.
“This is only the first of many routes AirAsia Japan will service," AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernades said. "Japan has huge potential, not just in terms of domestic but international as well, and with our extensive network across Asia Pacific, we will expand as fast as we can to connect Nagoya with the rest of Japan, North Asia and ASEAN and to make Nagoya a major inbound destination to rival Tokyo and Osaka.”
Service is onboard a pair of A320-200s.
