Transport Canada has announced it has reinstated West Wind Aviation's Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) for its commuter operations after a review of the carrier's operations. The reinstatement is effective immediately and allows West Wing to once more provide commercial air service in Canada.

The regulator said in a statement on May 8 that West Wind Aviation had addressed its concerns regarding the deficiencies in its Operational Control System.

"Transport Canada will closely monitor West Wind Aviation to verify that the company remains compliant with aviation safety regulations," it said.

West Wind's AOC was suspended in December last year after a Transport Canada audit revealed deficiencies in the company's Operational Control System. The review of its operations came after one of the carrier's ATR42-320s failed to gain height on take-off resulting in it colliding with trees and terrain less than 1,500metres west of Fond du Lac, SK's runway 28. The aircraft was destroyed while nine occupants were reported to have sustained serious injuries with one dying later.

West Wind operates four ATR42-300s, four DHC-6s, several Beech 1900C/Ds, and various smaller piston and turboprop aircraft.
