SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) is exploring an alliance with two major international companies in the United States, including one airline and one technological firm, Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh has told reporters at the annual US-India Strategic and Partnership Summit (USISPF) gathering in Washington.
According to PTI newswire, Singh has added that the Indian airline will seek to diversify risk from the aviation industry.
"We must hedge ourselves from the risk of being in a pure aviation business and find the businesses which are connected to aviation, which would be a little more insulated from the high cost of fuel and so on", Singh has said.
The new partner will most likely be a technology firm active in cargo, courier, and logistics sectors, the SpiceJet Chairman has added. Short of naming any potential companies, he has said that the announcement is expected shortly.
At the same time, SpiceJet does not plan to expand its network to the United States for the time being.
As of now, the Indian carrier is unaligned with any of the existing alliances and has no other airlines or aviation holdings among its shareholders.
