Kingfisher Airlines (Mumbai International) and Oneworld have agreed to postpone the carrier's entry into the alliance until Kingfisher is able to resolve its financial difficulties that have put it under the spotlight of the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the local media. It has been forced to return a variety of aircraft to the lessors causing flight cancellations and schedule changes. It has also cancelled an order for 38 ATR 72-600s. The Indian government is currently considering lifting its foreign direct investment restrictions allowing international airlines to only take a 25% stake in Indian airlines. Plans proposed by the aviation ministry call for legislation to be changed to allow up to 49% of a carrier to be owned by international investors.
