Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) resumed limited transfer operations through its hub at Hong Kong International airport as of June 1, 2020, although it does not include services to mainland China for the time being.

Passengers travelling with Cathay Pacific and its subsidiary Cathay Dragon (Hong Kong International) are now able to transit at Hong Kong airport as long as they travel on a single itinerary with the connection time shorter than 8 hours.

The exception for transit to mainland China also includes ferry services to within the Pearl River Delta region.

Under the current rules, the bulk of Cathay Dragon's scheduled flights are exempted from transits, since six out of the carrier's nine scheduled routes are to mainland China. Combined, they constitute 78% of the airline's total capacity, the ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Operator Capacity Data module shows. In turn, the parent airline operates a relatively scarce network into mainland China entailing just two destinations (Beijing Capital and Shanghai Pudong) out of 27 international destinations served on a scheduled basis by the airline's passenger aircraft.
