Singapore Airlines Group continues to adjust its B787 order book and has agreed to transfer to (an) undisclosed lessor(s) five of its B787-10 commitments. With the change, the group now has firm orders with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for just eight B787-10s, all of them due to deliver to Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi).

Singapore Airlines Group has been gradually whittling down its B787-10 backlog having had 29 on order at the beginning of the year.First, it converted fourteen orders into eleven B777-9s in February 2021. Out of the remaining fifteen orders, it transferred two to the group's low-cost carrier Scoot, changing the variant to B787-9s. Boeing's latest order data shows that a further five units have now been transferred to (an) undisclosed customer(s).

"Singapore Airlines has adjusted its purchase agreement with Boeing. Five B787-10s will now be delivered to SIA through a third party. This will help SIA to reduce its near-term capital expenditure, and defer the introduction of these aircraft to a period that is better aligned with the projected recovery trajectory for international air travel," the carrier confirmed in a statement to Mainly Miles blog.

Singapore Airlines' current B787 fleet comprises fifteen -10s. Following the completion of the sale-and-leaseback transaction announced in May, the carrier will own nine of the -10s and dry-lease the other six units.

Including the recent transfer of the two orders from Singapore Airlines, Scoot is due two B787-8s and four -9s.
