UK's One Air secures AOC
26.04.2023 - 15:44 UTCThe UK Civil Aviation Authority awarded an Air Operator's Certificate to cargo start-up One Air (HC, London Stansted), the country's sole B747 operator.
One Air plans to initially operate cargo charters between the United Kingdom, continental Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Going forward, it hopes to enter the Chinese and the US markets. It has yet to apply for a US Foreign Air Carrier Permit and an exemption. In line with the EU-UK agreement, the carrier was awarded an EU Third Country Operator permit concurrently with the British AOC.
The start-up currently dry-leases a single B747-400(BDSF), G-UNET (msn 25075). It added the 31.8-year-old converted freighter in May 2022 and has been using it for proving flights since then. The aircraft is currently parked at Cardiff, having operated a series of training flights between the Welsh airport and Shannon in March and April 2023, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. It will be the only active operator of B747 aircraft in the UK, following the retirement of all B747-400s by British Airways...
Creditors of UK's CargoLogicAir likely to be paid in full
27.01.2023 - 09:31 UTCCreditors owed money by CargoLogicAir (P3, London Stansted) can expect to be paid in full, but payment may take some time, say the airline's administrators. Per a FlightGlobal report, administrators Buchler Phillips Limited are negotiating their way around the international sanctions regime to access the funds.
CargoLogicAir went into administration in November 2022 after failing to find a UK bank willing to do business with it. The cargo carrier is ultimately owned by Volga-Dnepr Airlines (VI, Ulyanovsk Vostochny) founder and (until recently) CEO Alexei Isaikin. In June 2022, Isaikin was added to the list of high-profile Russians subject to UK sanctions, which included an asset freeze and travel ban that still remains in force.
"(Isaikin is) a director (or equivalent) of a company carrying on business in a sector of strategic significance (the transport sector) to the government of Russia, and therefore is or has been involved in obtaining a benefit or supporting the government of Russia," says the UK's Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI).

Russia’s Volga-Dnepr owes C$305,655 in fees for An-124
20.12.2022 - 14:01 UTCAn An-124-100 freighter belonging to Russian cargo carrier Volga-Dnepr Airlines (VI, Ulyanovsk Vostochny) that was seized at Toronto Pearson Airport ten months ago has racked up CAD305,655 Canadian dollars (USD224,055) in “parking fees” but is not going anywhere anytime soon, Canada’s transport minister Omar Alghabra has said.
RA-82078 (msn 9773054559153) was detained on February 28 as Western countries began to impose sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine four days previously. The aircraft had been carrying Covid-19 testing kits ordered by the Canadian government from China. The seizure of the Antonov Design Bureau quadjet came after the European Union and Canada - but before the United States - initiated airspace bans paralysing the movement of aircraft operated by Russian airlines carrying passengers or cargo.
Alghabra told the Mississauga news site Insauga that the stranded aircraft will not be using Canadian airspace until Russia’s war in Ukraine is over, and it will stay where it is until further notice. A Transport Canada spokesperson had similarly told the site in August that it...
UK's CargoLogicAir enters administration
21.11.2022 - 09:25 UTCFormerly profitable British all-cargo specialist CargoLogicAir (P3, London Stansted) (CLA) has been placed into administration after its business was affected by the sanctions against Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.
The company has been unable to trade effectively since its majority shareholder and former director, dual Russian and Cypriot national Alexey Isaykin, was made the subject of UK government sanctions against businesses deemed Russian-controlled, liquidators David Buchler and Jo Milner of Buchler Phillips Limited said in a statement.
"As a consequence, the company sought and was granted licences for a minimal continuance of operations from HM Treasury. However, it ran into problems operating its bank accounts on a timely basis: the company faced increasing difficulties with its bankers despite having considerable funds in its account, which should have left the company solvent," they explained.
"The appointment of administrators at CargoLogicAir is a very unfortunate, unintended consequence of sanctions generally applied against British businesses perceived as Russian controlled. This is a unique British business performing a valuable commercial service to British customers trading overseas, employing British...
Editorial Comment: Corrected that CargoLogicAir UK and CargoLogicAir Germany are subsidiaries of CargoLogic Holdings (UK). Neither of these is corporately related to Volga-Dnepr, except for having a shareholder in common. - 23.11.2022 - 07:37 UTC
