CargoLogic Germany enters insolvency proceedings
13.05.2022 - 11:53 UTCCargoLogic Germany (GCL, Leipzig/Halle) applied for insolvency restructuring on May 10, nearly two months after it was banned from operating in German airspace due to its alleged links to Russian Volga-Dnepr Group.
The District Court of Leipzig has appointed Lucas Flöther as the provisional administrator. He has ample experience with distressed airlines, having overseen the insolvencies of Air Berlin, Niki (Austria), Condor, and SundAir.
"We are checking whether it is possible to resume flight operations as quickly as possible, taking into account the sanctions. German insolvency law offers suitable options here," Flöther said in a statement to the German media.
A restart would most likely require new investors, as CargoLogic Germany's current ownership is the reason for its insolvency. The German civil aviation authority (Luftfahrt Bundesamt - LBA) banned the carrier from operating in the country's airspace on March 11, 2022, under the framework of sanctions targeting the Russian aviation industry. The decision effectively grounded the airline, which lost all revenue while still facing leases and staff costs...
CAA suspends CargoLogic Germany from its airspace
21.03.2022 - 07:46 UTCThe German civil aviation authority (Luftfahrt Bundesamt - LBA) has suspended the operations of CargoLogic Germany (GCL, Leipzig/Halle) in its airspace as of March 11, 2022, as a corollary of sanctions imposed on Russian airlines in wake of the invasion of Ukraine.
CargoForwarder Global reported that the German affiliate company of Russia's Volga-Dnepr Group ceased all operations immediately thereafter. The airline disputes the suspension.
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows the cargo carrier's four B737-400(SF)s operated their last wave of flights on the morning of March 11, with D-ACLW (msn 25775) the last one to land - at Helsinki Vantaa at around 0810L (0610Z), Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. The other three aircraft are currently parked at Budapest, Katowice, and Ostrava airports. Prior to the suspension, they operated mainly out of Leipzig/Halle.
"We very much regret this decision and are currently holding intensive talks with all relevant authorities and stakeholders. The aim of the talks is to resume flight operations for our German company based in Leipzig as...

An-124 of Russia’s Volga-Dnepr seized at Toronto, Canada
11.03.2022 - 07:13 UTCAn An-124-100 freighter belonging to Russian cargo specialist Volga-Dnepr Airlines (VI, Ulyanovsk Vostochny), carrying Covid-19 testing kits previously ordered from China by the Canadian government, has been seized at Toronto Pearson Airport amid international sanctions against Russia imposed after its invasion of Ukraine.
RA-82078 (msn 9773054559153) was detained on February 28 after the European Union and Canada - but before the United States - initiated airspace flight bans paralysing the movement of aircraft operated by Russian airlines carrying passengers or cargo.
The Antonov Design Bureau freighter, which had landed at Toronto the previous day via a refuelling stop at Anchorage Ted Stevens, is now stored there, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows, and it will remain there for the foreseeable future, according to Omar Alghabra, Canada’s minister of transport.
Volga-Dnepr Airlines, whose subsidiaries include AirBridgeCargo, Atran, and London Stansted-based CargoLogicAir, operates eleven An-124s, three of which are currently active, among its all-owned fleet of sixteen aircraft.
