Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) has outlined plans to launch A330-900 revenue flights this October, deploying its first aircraft of the type on the London Heathrow-Boston route.

The carrier said in a press release that it would take a further two A330-900s in 2022 with deliveries of the remaining aircraft to proceed through 2026. The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Virgin Atlantic has eight A330-900s due from Airbus. Its 2019 order also included a further six options. Virgin also plans to add at least seven aircraft of the type from lessors, including at least six from Air Lease Corporation.

Virgin Atlantic's A330-900s will be configured for up to 262 passengers, including 32 business class suites (two of which will be premium "Retreat Suites" with additional space), 46 premium economy seats, and 184 economy class seats.

The A330-900s will replace Virgin Atlantic's A330ceo fleet which numbers ten A330-300s (including one placed on the AOC of Virgin Atlantic International (VGI, London Heathrow)). It retired all four A330-200s at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UK carrier's fleet also comprises nine A350-1000s and seventeen B787-9s.
