Nigeria's Ibom Air takes first A220-300
29.11.2023 - 09:25 UTCIbom Air (QI, Uyo) took delivery of the first of its ten firm-ordered A220-300s during a handover ceremony at Montréal Mirabel on November 24, 2023.
5N-CDA (msn unknown) has already been painted into the carrier's livery but remains in Canada for the time being. The airline did not respond to ch-aviation's request for the identification of the aircraft or to a question about the timeline for the ferry flight and entry into service.
Ibom Air expects a further two A220-300s by October 2024, and the remaining seven later.
The carrier operated two units of the type on a wet lease from EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) between June 2021 and June 2022 as a test. Satisfied with the results, it ordered ten A220s in November 2021. The contract initially covered seven A220-100s and three -300s but was later adjusted to include only the larger variant.

EgyptAir orders ten A350-900s
14.11.2023 - 07:52 UTCEgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) has ordered ten A350-900s from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac). In an announcement made during the Dubai Airshow 2023, the state-owned carrier said only that the incoming widebodies, whose delivery dates were not disclosed, would become its flagship type, suggesting they will replace its six B777-300(ER)s, the leases for which are due to run out between early 2025 and early 2028.
"Egyptair has firmed up an agreement with Airbus to procure 10 A350-900 aircraft, each boasting a capacity of 340 seats. These aircraft come equipped with cutting-edge technologies and Rolls-Royce XWB Trent engines, known for their modern design and reduced fuel emissions and consumption. As we tackle growing demand across our network, this aircraft is the optimal choice," Chairman and CEO Yehia Zakaria said.
ch-aviation fleets advanced data shows EgyptAir's widebody passenger fleet also entails four A330-200s (average age of 18.3 years) and four A330-300s (average age of 12.5 years). All eight are owned by the carrier itself.
EgyptAir to lease 18 B737 MAX 8s from ALC
13.11.2023 - 11:38 UTCEgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) has signed a lease agreement with Air Lease Corporation (ALC) covering eighteen B737-8s, deliveries of which will run from 2025 into 2026.
Announced during the ongoing Dubai Airshow 2023, the move marks the state-owned Egyptian carrier's latest Boeing (BOE, Washington National) commitment given it currently operates twenty-nine B737-800s (including one freighter), six B777-300(ER)s, and seven B787-9s.
Alongside the Boeing jets, EgyptAir also operates twelve Ac!223s, three A320-200s, eight A320neo, seven A321-200NX, five A330-200s (including one freighter), and four A330-300s. ch-aviation fleets ownership data shows the carrier owns roughly half the aircraft it operates with the others all leased.
