Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) has issued a Request for Proposals for the dry lease of an unspecified number of narrowbody aircraft - "B737-800 or equivalent" - for a period of eight to twelve years.

The Indonesian carrier is soliciting offers from lessors and airlines holding a valid AOC, but has excluded brokers and other intermediaries from the tender. The aircraft have to be outfitted with CFM International CFM56-7B or equivalent engines and be of 2010 vintage or younger. The carrier prefers aircraft in a dual-class configuration, although it would also accept proposals for single-class-configured narrowbodies. Seatback in-flight equipment and IOSA certification are "preferable" but not required.

The deadline for proposals is December 1, 2022. Garuda did not respond to ch-aviation's request for more details concerning its requirements.

The Indonesian flag carrier's narrowbody fleet currently comprises thirty-eight B737-800s, which are 11 years old on average. It had a firm order for fifty B737-8s, of which it took one before the March 2019 global grounding. Even though the order remains in place, Garuda has signalled its intention to cancel it and returned the sole delivered B737 MAX.

Subsidiary Citilink (QG, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) operates Airbus narrowbodies, including thirty-nine A320-200s and ten A320-200Ns.

Garuda recently received up to IDR725 billion rupiah (USD46.2 million) in state funding to finance its fleet growth and renewal.
