Aerus (ZV, Monterrey Mariano Escobedo) has ordered 30 of the all-electric Alice commuter aircraft from Israeli-US developer Eviation (Arlington, WA) to connect historically underserved communities in northern Mexico, including Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Veracruz.

Aerus has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the nine-seater Alice, which, according to Eviation, is the world's first flight-tested all-electric commuter aircraft, powered by two magni650 electric propulsion units developed by magniX.

Backed by automotive industry player Grupo Herrera, Aerus is based in Monterrey Mariano Escobedo, from where it is preparing to start operations in the first quarter of 2023. Its initial focus is on domestic routes in the country's north, where it hopes to support the tourist industry and contribute to economic development.

By introducing electric aircraft into its fleet, Aerus aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 50% by 2033, according to a joint statement. "As we enter into service, our objective is to create new opportunities for regional travel in Mexico that are environmentally and economically sustainable," said Chief Executive Officer Javier Herrera García. "Working with Eviation to bring a zero-emissions fleet to our region will transform the way we experience air travel and connect communities like never before."

Aerus has also placed an order with Cessna Aircraft Company/Textron Aviation for six regional turboprops comprising two 19-seat Cessna 408 Sky Couriers and four 14-seat Cessna (single turboprop) C208EX Grand Caravans. The first three of the latter have already been delivered.
