South Korean company, MintAir, has reached an agreement with Netherlands-based Electron Aerospace to acquire ten Electron 5 electric aircraft with 2027 delivery dates, according to Business Air News.

MintAir will also become the Electron Aerospace official reseller, supplying the four-seater aircraft in South Korea and neighbouring countries. They plan to resell the ten ordered aircraft to local flight schools.

MintAir was established in 2014 although it was then in the super conductor business. In 2020, it decided to enter the electric aircraft and urban air mobility space. Since then its has signed LOIs with multiple electric aircraft startups to obtain both aircraft and exclusive resale rights in the North Asia region. LOIs have been signed with Utah-based Skyworks Aeronautics for 100 eGyro eVTOL aircraft, Texas-based Jaunt Air Mobility for 40 eVTOL aircraft, Virginia-based Electra.aero for 50 eSTOL aircraft, and Australia's Dovetail Electric Aviation for engine conversions of 10 conventional commuter aircraft.

Electron Aerospace is pursuing EASA certification for the Electron 5 by 2026. The plane, which will scoot along at 300 kilometres per hour with a range of 750 kilometres, claims to have an 67 Wh/pkm energy efficiency when three out of four seats are filled. Subject to approval, Electron Aerospace plans to take the Electron 5 on a promotional round-the-world tour in 2025. It expects the aircraft to enter commercial service in 2027.

On its social media accounts, MintAir said that it plans to offer local flight schools the opportunity to go green at the same price as purchasing a comparable conventionally fuel aircraft. It adds that the Electron 5 is the most energy-efficient electric conventional take off and landing aircraft available that has the ability to cover most routes in South Korea.
