Türkiye's AnadoluJet to complete certification by 2Q24
16.08.2023 - 07:49 UTCTurkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport) aims to complete the certification of AnadoluJet (TK, Ankara Esenboga) by the Summer 2024 season, when the low-cost carrier will begin operating as a separate entity, Chief Financial Officer Murat Seker said during a quarterly earnings call.
The Turkish flag carrier incorporated AJet Hava Taşımacılığı Anonim Şirketi as a new, wholly-owned subsidiary on August 7, 2023. Until now, AnadoluJet was a division of Turkish Airlines with no separate corporate identity. Seker said that the group would announce the branding of the carrier as a stand-alone firm in the coming months. Turkish Airlines' quarterly investor presentation included AnadoluJet's existing logo.
AnadoluJet will apply for its own Air Operator's Certificate and Operating Licence shortly.
Even though the division already operates 69 aircraft and has its own staff, certification would nonetheless involve drawing up new procedures and manuals.
Turkish Airlines is betting heavily on AnadoluJet, a carrier targeting budget-conscious passengers and ethnic traffic, as an engine for regional growth. It plans to increase the division's fleet to 88 aircraft...
Engine options weigh as Turkish nears mega-order
15.08.2023 - 08:20 UTCAlthough it has received revised proposals from manufacturers for as many as 600 new-generation aircraft, Turkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport) has yet to make a decision on engine options, Chief Financial Officer Murat Seker said during a quarterly earnings call.
"Of course, the engines are playing a key role there. So while we are trying to decide on which aircraft type to [order], we are also very closely investigating which engine types to get and which type of maintenance contracts to get in addition. That is the reason why we have not announced any decision yet. But it's not going to take too much further time," he said.
The carrier disclosed plans to order 400 narrowbodies and 200 widebodies in May 2023, with the initial expectation that a deal would be announced during the IATA AGM in Istanbul in early June. The finalisation of the contract was delayed first by the Turkish presidential elections, and then by protracted talks with Airbus and Boeing.

Turkish Airlines spins off AnadoluJet into a new subsidiary
18.07.2023 - 12:11 UTCTurkish Airlines (TK, Istanbul Airport) has spun off its low-cost carrier division AnadoluJet (TK, Ankara Esenboga) into a new wholly-owned subsidiary, AJet Hava Taşımacılığı Anonim Şirketi (English: AJet Air Transport Joint Stock Company).
The airline said in a stock market disclosure that the new company was incorporated on July 14, 2023, with an initial paid-up capital of TRY450 million Turkish liras (USD17.2 million), and will continue operating as an LCC. It did not respond to ch-aviation's request for comment on whether the current AnadoluJet brand will be retained or replaced by AJet.
The step is a part of the ongoing process of spinning AnadoluJet off into a stand-alone carrier. Until now, the LCC division was a part of Turkish Airlines' corporate structure. It still has no own AOC, although plans are afoot to obtain it.
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows that AnadoluJet's rapidly growing in-house fleet comprises four A320-200Ns, twelve A321-200NX, seven B737-8s, and forty-six B737-800s.
