Ethiopian still bullish on Nigerian joint venture - COO
04.12.2023 - 05:36 UTCEthiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) believes its prospective Nigerian joint venture will go ahead despite concerns within the Nigerian government. Under the plan, it will take a 49% stake in startup Nigeria Air (NWB, Lagos), with private investors taking 46% and the Nigerian government 5%.
Speaking to Aviation Daily, Ethiopian Airlines CCO Lemma Yadecha Gudeta said the joint venture was "almost a done deal." However, a change of government in Nigeria this year has stalled the process. "The new authorities in Nigeria wanted to look into how the [original] agreements were made," he said. Last month, ch-aviation reported that the joint venture was on hold pending reassessment by new aviation minister, Festus Keyamo, and legal action by the Airline Operators of Nigeria.

Ethiopian inks MOU for eleven A350s
15.11.2023 - 11:41 UTCEthiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) covering eleven A350-900s. Once firmed, this impending commitment, signed during the Dubai Airshow 2023, will take the carrier's total A350 order book to 33 including four A350-1000s that are yet to be delivered.
According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, Ethiopian currently operates twenty A350-900s.
Earlier this week, Ethiopian also ordered eleven B787-9s (with options for 15 more) alongside twenty B737-8s (with options for 21 more) from Boeing (BOE, Washington National).
Aside from the A350s, Ethiopian's widebody fleet also includes six B777-200(LR)s and four B777-300(ER)s.
