Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) and its fully owned subsidiary Niki (Austria) (Vienna) have announced plans to make major changes to their networks from spring 2013 onwards. The changes that will be implemented from the IATA summer timetable 2013 include a new network strategy for Eastern Europe, the Iberian peninsula and North America. On long-haul routes to North America, Air Berlin will launch Chicago O'Hare as a new destination as previously announced and increase frequencies to other American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) hubs Los Angeles International, Miami International and New York JFK but instead not resume its seasonal routes to Las Vegas Harry Reid, San Francisco and Vancouver International. From Vienna, Niki will drop its routes to Belgrade Nikola Tesla, Bucharest Henri Coanda and Sofia with the Bucharest and Sofia routes being transferred to Berlin Tegel instead. From Air Berlin's Palma de Mallorca hub the carriers plan to increase frequencies on selected routes to Austria, Germany and Switzerland but instead pull out of domestic routes to Barcelona El Prat, Madrid Barajas and Santiago de Compostela.
