Astro Air International (8Y, Subic Bay) is planning to début operations later this year with flights planned to operate from Clark and Kalibo to Taipei Taoyuan. Formerly Spirit of Manila Airlines (SM, Clark), Astro had intended to begin flights in January this year, but was forced to postpone its inaugural after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines failed to give its operational consent. In addition to utilizing ex-Spirit of Manila aircraft, among them an MD-83 RP-C8708 (MSN 49946), the airline also employs ex-Spirit of Manila management and intends to fly to some of their destinations which, at one time, included Koror and Macau Int'l.
