Air Serbia (JU, Belgrade Nikola Tesla) has been granted regulatory approval by the Serbian Competition Protection Commission which ruled that the Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) takeover of Jat Airways (Belgrade Nikola Tesla) "would not restrict or distort competition in the Serbian aviation industry". The move now paves the way for the launch of ticket sales for its 2013/14 winter season; originally due to have begun this past week. The approval also greenlights changes to the Serbian carrier's shareholding structure with Etihad now officially a 49% stakeholder in Jat Catering and the airline’s handling division, SU-PORT. According to EX-YU Aviation News, Belgrade will next week advise the Jat Airways Joint Stock Assembly to name Dane Kondić as the airline’s new CEO. While Air Serbia is now the legal successor to Jat Airways (Belgrade Nikola Tesla) and therefore continues to use its agreements and its "JU" IATA code, it will however, be issued its own Air Operators Certificate. The nascent carrier's first of ten A319-100s is nearing readiness for its planned October 27 début in the airline's new colours. All ten should be in service come March 2014.
