Midwest Airlines (Egypt) (Cairo International) has reportedly moved to liquidate and deregister itself with the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) after the authority allegedly refused to support the airline's expansion plans. According to Egyptian media house youm7, the airline's management took the decision following the last of a series of meetings with Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr Abdel Aziz Fadel, on August 31 in regards to a potential private investment into the airline. The Minister is said to have rejected Midwest's plans without providing any explanation. With the current downturn in tourism in Egypt and the serious knock-on effects on the aviation scene, staff at the airline have been on unpaid leave for the last 3 months. Midwest has operated primarily in the charter and ACMI fields.
