IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi International) and several other scheduled carriers have resumed commercial flights out of Chennai following a near week-long closure of the airfield owing to flooding.

In its operational assessment of the airfield, the Airports Authority of India said water levels had abated enough for flights to resume on a 24-hour basis. Thus far, a total of thirty-eight flights, including six relief flights, have departed the airport.

This year's monsoon has seen unprecedented levels of rain falling with Chennai International Airport having recorded 266 mm in 24 hours earlier this month.
