With the prospect of intense competition with current partner flybe. (2002) (Exeter) looming large on the horizon, Loganair (LM, Glasgow International) has confirmed it is in talks with British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) over an expanded codeshare agreement which it hopes to introduce in the near future.

“Loganair and British Airways have a longstanding and successful relationship in serving the communities of the Scottish highlands and islands and we are working closely with our colleagues at British Airways to strengthen those links to the benefit of both airlines and, more importantly, to our customers,” Kay Ryan, Loganair’s commercial director said in a statement.

It is recalled Loganair operated in British Airways colours for fourteen years between 1994 and 2008 under a franchise partnership. The business relationship has continued since the conclusion of the franchise with a codeshare on some of Loganair’s network of services within the Scottish highlands and islands.

The announcement comes as Loganair prepares to go it alone following the conclusion of another franchise agreement, this time with Flybe, at the end of this month. Thereafter, Flybe will compete with Loganair in the Scottish market via UK regional specialist, Eastern Airways (T3, Humberside), which will itself become a Flybe franchisee from September onwards.
