Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Brazilian post operator Correios to create a new logistics company, to be operational in the first half of 2018.

According to the carrier's statement, the airline will hold 50.01% share in the new company while the remainder will be owned by the state-owned Correios. The enterprise expects to carry around 100,000 tonnes of cargo per year.

"Azul is the only company with a broad aviation network, connecting the country with more than 100 destinations served. Correios is present in 5,570 Brazilian cities, with the biggest distribution capillarity from its network. Having a company exploring this synergy, more Brazilians will have access to integrated services, allowing them to be even more active in the development of our country", Brazil's Minister of Science, Technology and Communication Gilberto Kassab was quoted as saying in the statement.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Azul operates 783 weekly departures out of São Paulo Viracopos, one of the main cargo hubs in Brazil. It is currently the most important airport in the carrier's network with a 16.4% share in all weekly departures. The airline also operates 172 weekly departures out of São Paulo Guarulhos, the biggest airport in Brazil by cargo traffic.

The cooperation between Azul and Correios needs to get an approval from the Brazilian authorities before it can become operational.
