The West Australian government has announced it has named Rex - Regional Express (ZL, Wagga Wagga) as the preferred tenderer for its regulated Perth International to Carnarvon/Monkey Mia route.

Subject to final negotiations in early 2018, REX will enter into a deed of agreement with the Department of Transport to operate the Perth to Carnarvon / Monkey Mia route on a five-year licence set to commence on July 2, 2018.

According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Skippers Aviation currently operates a 7x weekly service between Perth and Carnarvon, with three of these flights continuing to Monkey Mia.

REX commenced operations in Western Australia in February 2016 operating the regulated Perth to Albany, WA and Perth to Esperance routes.

Australia's largest independent regional airline, REX operates a fleet of more than fifty Saab 340Bs on scheduled passenger flights to sixty destinations across all Australian states.

In addition to the regional airline Regional Express, the Rex Group comprises wholly-owned subsidiaries Pel-Air Aviation (PFY, Sydney Kingsford Smith), an air freight and charter operator, and Air Link (LZ, Dubbo), a regional airline.
