Lufthansa Group has announced it will order up to 16 additional aircraft with deliveries set to take place in stages through 2022.

In a statement, the group said the order includes two B777-300(ER)s for its Swiss (LX, Zurich) unit which are expected to supplement the carrier's existing fleet beginning in early 2020 and will be used to expand its route network.

An additional two B777-Fs will be ordered for Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) for use in replacing its ageing MD-11(F) fleet.

Lastly, the group's Supervisory Board has also approved the order of up to twelve short- and medium-haul A320-Family aircraft. This includes six firmed A320neo options due in 2022. When they are delivered, they will replace older aircraft in service with Lufthansa Group. Depending on availability, up to six additional A320ceo will also be ordered. The plan is to deploy them at Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) this year, in order to offset delivery delays with A320neo aircraft.
