Air Italy (2005) (Milan Malpensa) will shortly lease its first two ex-Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) and ex-Hong Kong Express (UO/Hong Kong) B737-800s and has wet-leased a B737-500 from Bulgaria Air (FB/Sofia) for the summer season to replace an aircraft of the same type it had previously wet-leased from Smartwings (QS/Prague). Air Italy will launch several new routes and in addition to its planned expansion in the Italy-Brazil market is considering setting up a Brazilian subsidiary in Fortaleza to operate domestic and international services: Genoa-Olbia: 2x weekly seasonal B737-300 service between July 28 and September 3 Milan Malpensa-Fortaleza-Maceio: weekly B767-200ER service starting on July 19 Milan Malpensa-Natal: weekly B767-200ER service starting on July 24 Milan Malpensa-Porto Seguro-Salvador: weekly B767-200ER service starting on July 15 Milan Orio al Serio-Olbia: weekly seasonal B737-300 service between July 25 and September 5 Rome Fiumicino-Milan Malpensa-Havana: weekly B767-200ER service starting on July 31 It will operate a seasonal twice weekly B737-300 service from Genoa to Olbia between July 28 and September 3. It will operate a four times weekly B737-300 service linking Brescia and Olbia between July 24 and September 7 because the Italian government refused Air Italy rights to operate between Verona and Olbia because Meridiana (IG/Olbia) received subsidies for operating the route under a public service obligation agreement that guarantees Meridiana exclusive rights to serve the route. Air Italy has also dropped plans to operate a seasonal Palermo-Olbia route.
