Air China (CA, Beijing Capital) has grounded several of its fourteen B787-9s for maintenance due to vulcanization and fatigue cracks in the blades of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines' intermediate pressure (IP) compressor, Air Transport World has reported.

According to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, B-7899 (msn 34311) has been grounded at Beijing Capital since April 14, 2018, B-7879 (msn 34307) since April 15 and B-7878 (msn 34306) since April 20. Additionally, B-7877 (msn 34305) has been inactive for longer and remained on the ground since January 14.

The grounded aircraft have been replaced with A330-300s and B777-300(ER)s, of which Air China operates twenty-nine and twenty-six respectively.

The persistent Trent 1000 issues have, to date, affected a number of carriers around the world, including, but not limited to, Air New Zealand, LATAM Airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and others.
