interCaribbean Airways (JY, Providenciales) will rebrand InselAir (Curacao) and redevelop Curacao as a secondary hub once its takeover of the ailing Dutch Antillean carrier has been completed.

The Turks & Caicos-based carrier's takeover of InselAir could secure judicial approval at a hearing on December 18 after creditors gave their consent to its creditor-payment agreement earlier this month.

Speaking to The Daily Herald on Tuesday, December 11, InselAir President and Executive Chairman Lars de Brabander said given the carrier's poor public image, it would have to undergo a rebranding exercise. A formal decision on its new name would, however, only be taken at a later date.

In terms of operations, InselAir and interCaribbean Airways will remain separate carriers with the latter exploiting the former's access to lucrative international traffic rights.

interCaribbean must produce a bank guarantee before December 18, failure of which the court could declare InselAir bankrupt.
