LaudaMotion (Vienna) will rebrand as Lauda (Vienna) for marketing reasons, although the registered name of the company will continue to be Laudamotion GmbH, Managing Director Andreas Gruber said at a press conference.

According to aeroTELEGRAPH, the airline is targeting profitability in 2020. It also wants to grow its fleet to twenty-one A320s this summer season and thirty-five Airbus narrowbodies next year.

The first airline set up by Niki Lauda, a former Formula 1 driver, was called Lauda Air (Vienna). It launched in 1985, was acquired by Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) in 2000, and was merged into the Austrian flag carrier in 2012. Niki Lauda then launched Niki (Austria) (Vienna), which was later bought by airberlin group and collapsed together with its parent in late 2017. During liquidation proceedings, Niki Lauda acquired most of Niki's assets and relaunched the airline as LaudaMotion.
