AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines (J2, Baku Heydar Aliev International) said in a message on its Facebook page that it will not cancel flights to New York JFK as a result of "the optimisation of its fleet's technical capabilities".

The Azeri flag carrier previously said that it would suspend the 2x weekly route from Baku Heydar Aliev International in October 2019 as a part of strategic realignment to focus on improving the quality of service on other routes. However, it said it had received numerous requests from passengers to retain the only scheduled passenger North American link from Azerbaijan.

According to the ch-aviation schedules module, AZAL operates the route using B787-8 jets. It is the carrier's only transatlantic service and also, by far, the longest route it serves.

AZAL operates two B787-8s, which are deployed to Antalya, Bodrum Milas, Dubai International, Istanbul Airport, London Heathrow, Moscow Domodedovo, and New York JFK. Its widebody fleet also includes two A340-500s and three B767-300(ER)s, of which one is used for VIP charters. Besides JFK, AZAL's only long-haul services are to London and Beijing Capital.
