The Oman Aviation Group (OAG), parent firm of Oman Air (WY, Muscat), has denied reports in the international press claiming it to be in the process of establishing a new regional airline.

Citing two sources familiar with developments, Reuters said on Tuesday that OAG had issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) for feasibility studies concerning the establishment of Oman Link, said to be a "new regional airline that could take over domestic operations from state carrier Oman Air".

However, in a follow-up statement issued shortly after, OAG clarified that Oman Link was not an airline but rather an initiative aimed at boosting airport connectivity across the country.

"Oman Aviation Group denies reports regarding establishing a new airline company," it said. "The Group is working on developing a promotional and investment programme called ‘Oman Link’, which aims to promote and connect regional airports in the Sultanate."

At present, Oman's domestic market is controlled by Oman Air, which offers regular flights connecting Muscat, Salalah, Duqm, and Khasab, and SalamAir (OV, Muscat), which operates from Muscat to Ghaba Qam Alam, Mukhaizna and Salalah.
