New air taxi operator FLOAT Shuttle (Burbank) - which stands for Fly Over All Traffic - is planning to help Southern California (SoCal) commuters avoid the infamous traffic around Los Angeles.

It is targetting what it calls "super commuters" which are driving for more than 90 minutes daily. Some of the higher-density areas where FLOAT is witnessing demand for routes include the westside of Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Orange County, and the Inland Empire - densely populated areas of Southern California that can take commuters hours to travel between.

FLOAT's website is asking the local community for "long-distance driver input" to help it create the December trial routes in intends to initially fly "based on the LA area commuter needs and schedules." Once these trial flights are complete, it hopes to launch its initial schedule from January onwards.

The air taxi operator will offer monthly flight packages of 20 days of commuting for prices from USD1,250 to USD1,950, based on six example routes. Flight times range between seven minutes for flights between San Gabriel Valley - El Monte and Fullerton, to 24 minutes for flights between San Diego McClellan Palomar and Corona. The resulting average cost per flight ranges from USD31.25 to USD43.75.

FLOAT is in discussions with providers and 40 general aviation airports across Southern California. When referring to the start-up's website, its services are being operated by Southern Airways Express (9X, Memphis International), details of which, a FLOAT spokesperson has stated will be confirmed in the next week.

Arnel Guiang, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of FLOAT said: "FLOAT is shattering the myth that sitting in hours of traffic every day is a necessary and unavoidable way of life in Southern California.”
