Although not scheduled to happen until October, Lufthansa Group airlines have commenced the switch from Berlin Tegel to Berlin Brandenburg International, as the group's booking systems have now been moved over to the new airport. Passengers who book a flight on November 8 or later will see the new Berlin airport as their destination instead of Tegel.

The switch to Brandenburg is scheduled to start on October 31, when over the course of a week, flights from the German capital city will move from Tegel to the new airport. AL! LH-o's last service from Tegel will take place on November 7 as flight LH1955 from Berlin to Munich. The next morning at 0630L, flight LH173 from Berlin to Frankfurt International will be the carrier's first departure from the capital city's new airport.

Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna), Swiss (LX, Zurich) and Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) will also commence operations at Brandenburg on November 8. According to current plans, Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) will operate its first flight from the new facility on November 4.

"We care about Berlin. No one else connects Berlin with the world like we do," said Harry Hohmeister, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Chief Commercial Officer Passenger Airlines. "Six Lufthansa Group airlines fly to the German capital – with up to 33,000 passengers a day. 270 destinations can be reached with only one transfer. Berlin is a fascinating and cosmopolitan city that attracts people from all over the world. That is why Berlin needs an efficient airport."

According to the ch-aviation capacities module, easyJet Europe (EC, Vienna) is currently Tegel's largest airline with 29% of weekly seats, just ahead of the combined capacity of Lufthansa and Eurowings, which commands 28% of weekly seats.
