In an enigmatic update posted on its website, ExpressJet Airlines (EV, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) said it was planning to restart in "2021 and beyond" as an independent carrier serving second- and third-tier markets which lost connectivity due to COVID-related cuts.
"ExpressJet's plans for 2021 and beyond are to provide high-quality, reliable, efficient point-to-point flying to small and medium-sized cities that have lost service in recent years as a result of US airline industry consolidation and COVID-19 driven route reductions," the regional specialist said.
The airline suspended all operations on September 30, 2020, after United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) decided to consolidate all of its E145 operations at CommutAir (C5, Cleveland Hopkins). The Capacity Purchase Agreement with United was ExpressJet's sole commercial contract. Having lost the CPA and in light of a lack of forthcoming federal support, the carrier elected to shut down.
ExpressJet Airlines was founded as Continental Express (CO, Cleveland Hopkins) in 1987 and subsequently merged with ASA - Atlantic Southeast Airlines (EV, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson...

American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) and JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) agreed to voluntarily divest at least seven slot pairs at New York JFK and six at Washington National as a part of a compromise agreement with the US Department of Transportation to approve the two airlines' alliance in the north-eastern United States.
At JFK, American Airlines will divest four slot pairs and JetBlue three. The divestiture will be permanent and irrevocable. In turn, the Washington National bundle, consisting of four slot pairs owned by American and two by JetBlue, will be through renewable leases to other airlines. They are obliged to do so within a year of the agreement or three months of the expiry of the COVID-related slot utilisation waiver (which has recently been extended through October 24, 2021), whichever falls earlier.
Additionally, the airlines committed to growing their collective capacity in New York, subject to penalties in the...

The Board and special committee of the Board of Transat, supported by their financial and legal advisors, have reiterated their unanimous recommendation that Air Canada's planned takeover of the struggling Montreal-based tour operator and its airline Air Transat (TS, Montréal Trudeau) is "fair and in the best interests of the company".
In a statement on January 12, Transat reacted to what it labeled as incorrect and misleading media reports that Gestion MTRHP Inc., the investment firm of Pierre Karl Péladeau, Chief Executive Officer of Canadian media and telecommunications giant Quebecor, on December 22 had made a higher offer per share for Transat in the event that regulatory authorities rejected the Air Canada bid.
Canadian media reported that Péladeau had sent three letters to Transport Minister Marc Garneau calling for a rejection of the merger with Air Canada, promising to pay CAD223 million Canadian dollars (USD174.8 million) representing CAD6 (USD4.70) a share or 20% more than Air Canada to purchase Transat, in order to guarantee competition and fairer prices for Canadian travellers.
The CAD180 million (USD141.1...

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says it is planning to fine Colorado's MayaAir Charter (Telluride) USD55,000 for allegedly using its Hawker 400XP to conduct commercial operations despite lacking the necessary certification to do so.
The FAA alleges that between July 28, 2014 and August 3, 2014, MayaAir used N432MA (cn RK-370) to ferry paying customers on five flights in Colorado, Ohio, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
MayaAir has been in communication with the FAA about the case.
Founded in 2003, the Telluride-based charter specialist also operates an E500.
