Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) took final delivery of its first B787-9s, A7-BHC (msn 64210) and A7-BHD (msn 64216), on March 23, followed by A7-BHE (msn 64218) and A7-BHF (msn 64209) on March 28. Skyliner Aviation said the four jets were ferried directly from Victorville, California to Doha Hamad International.

Boeing (BOE, Washington National) delivered seven B787-9s to Qatar Airways in late December 2019. The aircraft, which were completed by the manufacturer but did not have cabin interiors installed, were ferried from Everett to Doha and then immediately back to Victorville. The remaining three units remain in California for the time being.

The airline initially expected to start operating the type in 2019 but was held back by the delays related to the installation of its new QSuite business class seats. While this cabin type is already installed on some B777-300(ER)s, A350-900s, and A350-1000s, the B787-9 version will be slightly altered due to the smaller fuselage diameter.

Qatar Airways has a further twenty-three B787-9s on order from Boeing. According to the ch-aviation fleets module, it already operates thirty B787-8s.
