Ryanair eyes Russia in the Winter 2020/21 season
11.08.2020 - 01:43 UTCRyanair (FR, Dublin Int'l) is gearing up to enter Russia, having secured traffic rights from the Italian civil aviation authority (Ente Nazionale per L'aviazione Civile - ENAC) for 4x weekly flights from Italy to St. Petersburg starting during the Winter 2020/21 season.
The relevant decision by ENAC's Air Transport Development and Licensing Department did not specify the Italian airports of origin. Ryanair has yet to formally confirm the plans.
The Irish LCC does not currently serve Russia. Its rival Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has recently announced plans to launch its first Russian base at St. Petersburg airport starting in September 2020.
Meanwhile, easyJet Europe (EC, Vienna), which stopped flying to Russia in 2015, is planning to enter Ukraine, having also secured 12x weekly frequencies from ENAC, all of which are due to launch by the end of the current summer season.
Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) also received traffic rights for 96x weekly flights from Italy to Ukraine, also due to launch in the current season, while...
