WestJet (WS, Calgary) took delivery of its first B737-800(BCF) on April 7, 2022, although it has yet to register it in Canada and induct it into service.

Still registered as 2-BPDL (msn 34686), the carrier's first dedicated freighter was ferried, after conversion at Guangzhou, to Calgary via Tokyo Narita and Anchorage Ted Stevens over the course of April 6-7, 2022. It is dry-leased from Nomura Babcock & Brown/BBAM.

"The delivery of our first freighter to our home base in Calgary, Alberta gives us great confidence in the growth and development of our commercial cargo service, and I am eager to see our new dedicated commercial cargo service take flight as we begin providing competitive services to cargo customers across Canada," Chief Executive Alexis von Hoensbroech said.

The Canadian carrier plans to add a further three B737-800(BCF)s by the end of 2022. It recently signed a partnership with cargo specialist GTA Group to deploy all four aircraft on overnight express cargo routes out of Toronto Pearson.
