Smartwings (Czechia) (QS, Prague Václav Havel) will operate B737-800 charter flights between Hamburg Luebeck, northern Germany, and Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands, on behalf of German tour operator Schauinsland-Reisen between September 29 and October 27, 2023.
This has been confirmed to ch-aviation by spokespersons for the tour operator as well as Lübeck Airport. The airline was not immediately available for comment.
"We already had very good experiences last year with Smartwings, which was based in the Canary Islands over the autumn. This year we are expanding the business and using the aircraft based in Gran Canaria this autumn to put together attractive travel packages for our sales partners from Lübeck as well," Schauinsland-Reisen's Head of Business Development Marc Puiskens told Wochenspiegel.
Smartwings currently operates a B737-800, OM-TSG (msn 30660), on charters between Gran Canaria and Hamburg, ADS-data reveals. It also operates twice-weekly schedules between Gran Canaria and Prague Václav Havel, Czechia, according to ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data data.
"We are particularly pleased to be able to offer the so-called hot water destinations from Lübeck. The climatically appealing Canary Atlantic island fits perfectly into the airport's portfolio and is one of the most popular flight destinations," commented Lübeck Airport Managing Director Jürgen Friedel.
Smartwings has a crew base in the Canary Islands, in addition to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and France. The airline has eighteen B737-800s in its fleet and seven B737-8s, two B737-700s, and two B737-900ERs, ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data data reveals.
