Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) has announced an order for five more A380-800s and twenty additional A350-900s. SIA already operates 19 A380-800s and had previously placed an order for 20 A350-900s in 2007 already for deliveries between 2014 and 2017. The additional aircraft ordered now are expected to be delivered from 2017 onwards. Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) will buy back all of Singapore Airlines' five A340-500s by the end of next year as part of the deal. The A340-500s are currently exclusively used for ultra long-haul routes from Singapore Changi to Los Angeles International and New York Newark in a premium class only configuration resulting in the suspension of these two non-stop routes. SIA also operates daily A380-800 services from Singapore via Tokyo Narita to Los Angeles and via Frankfurt International to New York JFK already.
