Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) has been forced to stop selling seats between Lilongwe International and Lusaka following four years of operations on the route with fifth freedom rights. National carrier Air Malawi (Blantyre) had complained to the government that Kenya Airways' low fares would prevent it from operating on the route. Air Malawi has now partnered with Air Botswana (BP, Gaborone) which operates three weekly ATR 42-500 round-trips between the two cities. Kenya Airways operates a total of four weekly flights with a mix of E170s, B767-300ERs and B777-200ERs but is now no longer allowed to carry local passengers.
