JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) as well as Southwest Airlines (WN, Dallas Love Field) and US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) have all applied for slot exemptions made available because of the move of two daily Fort Lauderdale International-Washington National services to Baltimore International on September 6. The two slot pairs have already been sold to Southwest allowing it to launch a new twice daily service from Washington Reagan to St. Louis Lambert International back in September but the slot exemptions allowing carriers to operate flights using their existing arrival and departure slots to destinations more than 1,250 nautical miles from the airport have yet to be awarded to a new carrier. jetBlue plans to use the exemptions for a new route to Jacksonville International, FL, Southwest plans to serve Houston Hobby while US Airways is making its case for a new route to Oklahoma City Will Rogers World. The US Department of Transporation is expected to make a decision selecting one of the three carriers in the first quarter of 2013.
