Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International) should not be acquired by Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) if the Irish government gets its way. Irish transport minister Leo Varadkar has said that the government would oppose the plan of Ryanair to acquire 100% of rival Aer Lingus in which the government still owns a 25.4% stake. A final decision from a competitive perspective by the European Commission is due in early 2013 on the transaction.
