American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has asked for regulatory approval to be allowed to codeshare with LATAM Airlines Group subsidiaries LAN Colombia (Bogotá) and more interestingly with TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas). The codeshare agreement with TAM has to be approved by Brazilian authorities and it is expected that it will take up to 11 months to gain approval for the proposed cooperation. While TAM has yet to officially announce a decision on whether it wants to continue to stay in Star Alliance or join Oneworld of which LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile) is a member, this move will add oneworld member American as its third US codeshare partner after United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) and US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor).
