Sun PhuQuoc Airways (9G, Hanoi Noi Bai International) has taken delivery of its first aircraft, an A321-200NX, as it continues to pursue its air operator's certificate (AOC) ahead of its launch planned later this year.
VN-A281 (msn 12578), on lease from AerCap, is a brand new aircraft that was ferried from Hamburg Finkenwerder via Samarkand to Haikou for final pre-delivery maintenance on July 26-27, 2025. On August 10, already with the start-up's full livery, it was repositioned to Phu Quoc and then to Hanoi Noi Bai International, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.
The aircraft is the first of eight the start-up aims to take by the end of 2025. Sun Phu Quoc Airlines plans to operate 31 aircraft by 2030.
Concurrently with the delivery of the first A321-200NX, the company signed a financing agreement with Vietcombank to arrange a credit facility for the acquisition of ten A320-200N/A321-200NX aircraft.
The start-up is backed by Sun Group, a hospitality and real estate holding, and aims to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. It will focus on connecting the island of Phu Quoc, one of Viet Nam's main leisure hotspots, with key destinations in the country and regionally.
