Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) is now also considering setting up partnerships in Myanmar and Vietnam as strong growth in the Asia-Pacific region continues to spur demand for cost-effective air travel. Using its order for 234 Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and 230 Boeing (BOE, Washington National) narrow body aircraft - part of the carrier’s plans to acquire 1’000 aircraft over the coming 10 years - Lion is looking to penetrate the so-far "underserved markets" of Vietnam and Myanmar, while at the same time, considering a push into Thailand and the Australian domestic market, where it will challenge the 65% market share of Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith).
