Norwegian Long Haul (Oslo Gardermoen) officially took delivery of its first B787-8, EI-LNA (msn 35304) on Thursday, June 27. The aircraft is the first of two due this year with the carrier anticipating taking four 787s in 2014 and one in 2015. As an interim measure, Norwegian had been leased an A340-300, CS-TQY (c/n 190), and an A330-200, CS-TFZ (c/n 1008), from Hi Fly (5K, Beja) (instead of two A340-300s as previously announced), a move CEO Bjorn Kjos, said had cost his airline "a fortune in fuel". The B787-8s will operate on European routes from Oslo to Alicante Elche Miguel Hernández, Barcelona El Prat, London Gatwick, Málaga and Nice until the end of August when they will replace the HiFly aircraft on long-haul routes from Oslo and Stockholm Arlanda to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and New York JFK.
